HCCF awards over $100K to local non-profits

Lime Springs - The Howard County Community Foundation held its annual grant awards ceremony on March 27, announcing the distribution of $108,207 in grants to 55 area non-profits and government agencies.
Grants awards ranged from $200 up to $3,000. With this year’s awards, the Howard County Community Foundation has exceeded $1 million in total grants since inception in 2005.
“The work these deserving organizations do to create a stronger county is critical to making our communities places where everyone can thrive,” said Dawn Fairbanks, Howard County committee chair.
“The Howard County Community Foundation is proud to be a partner in their work, and we are thankful for the generosity of community-minded people who make this impact possible.”
Dottie Thompson of the Foundation noted there were 60 applicants who asked for $150,000 more in funding than the board could give. She commended the board for making hard decisions and those who work diligently all year for their communities.
Fairbanks then mentioned all the board members, including Christopher Back, Shirley Ferguson and Elaine Govern of Riceville; Fairbanks, Jeff Burnikel and Carla Moser of Lime Springs; Brooke Cray of Chester; Wayne Kerian, Kip Powers and Dave Sovereign of Cresco; Mark Meirick of Protivin; and Bradley Shatek of Elma.
Fairbanks was sorry to say Kerian was stepping down from the board in the coming year.
