Four ladies vie for fair queen title

—Crowning takes place Wednesday, June 20, 5:30 p.m.

 

Howard County - Four deserving young ladies will be competing to earn the honor of being named the 2018 “Mighty” Howard County Fair Queen. The contest is sponsored by Farm Bureau and the Howard County Fair Board.
The four candidates include: Hope Dohlman, Cassie Hosek, Kayla Hruska and Karissa Stika.
Coronation of the queen will take place on Wednesday, June 20 at 5:30 p.m. on the Scheidel Plaza Stage at the “Mighty” Howard County Fairgrounds in Cresco.
 
Hope Dohlman of Cresco is the daughter of Emily Dohlman Govern. She recently finished her junior year at Crestwood High School this year.
She is involved in National Honor Society, SLASH (Student Leadership Group), HEROES, Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track, Silver Cord.
She has been an active member in 4-H: seven-year member; Saratoga 4-H Club: Elected President for the past three years, lead meetings, clean ditches; County Council: Elected President for the past two years, lead meetings, organize county 4-H events, volunteer at Spring Fair, set up and work in the 4-H building at the Howard County Fair; State 4-H Council: Interviewed and was selected to be a member of the State 4-H Council. She was selected to serve on the 2018-2019 State 4-H Council for a second term; volunteered four days at the 4-H building at the Iowa State Fair; organized the State 4-H Conference with the council.
Outside of school, she teaches piano lessons to two students for about 2 1/2 years; Lector and accompany Mass at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco; Volunteer at various church events at Notre Dame Parish.
The honors and special recognitions she has received include: applied and selected to be a member of the National Honor Society. 
 She applied and selected to be the 2018 Iowa Money Smart Kid by the Iowa Bankers Association; President of local 4-H club and 4-H County Council; 3 time State Cross Country Qualifier; 13th place finish at the 2017 State Cross Country Meet and named to the All-State Cross Country team; High honor roll student every year; Applied and selected to receive the 2018 Child Development State 4-H Project Award; Applied and selected to attend the 2018 National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia.
Her hobbies include playing piano at church, weddings, and for enjoyment, she enjoys spending time on her grandparents’ farm and showing hobby beef cattle at the county and state fair, spending time with family and friends. Her interest in sewing has grown through working on a quilt for my 4-H project.

Cassie Hosek of Elma is the daughter of Jim and Wendy Hosek. She just finished her junior year at Crestwood High School this year.
