Fish & Game Club’s Annual Wild Game Feed

CHESTER - Have you ever tasted venison goulash? What about broasted pheasant? Well now’s your chance to try these delicious foods and more at the Lime Springs/Chester Fish & Game Club’s Annual Wild Game Feed.

This year, The Wild Game Feed will be held March 19 at the Chester Community Center. Social hour starts at 4 p.m. and food is served at 6 p.m. There is a $5 donation at the door for non-members; children under 16 and current club members get in free.

The game feed has been an annual tradition since the early 1980s and is very popular with both club members and the public in general. This fund-raiser and membership drive helps fund the club’s projects, which include 160 acres of public hunting grounds, a shooting range and two different public access fishing ponds.

“There’s something for everybody,” Treasurer and long-time member Jean Brockney said. “You don’t have to be a member. It’s for everybody.”

Active member Kevin Bill said the big focus this year is on the fishing ponds. They need to be dredged, and trees and undergrowth need to be cleared. They are also re-shaping the shoreline of the bigger pond to provide more safe space for kids. In the past, they’ve added handicap access docks to both ponds.

In addition to great food for a great cause, the Lime Springs/Chester Fish & Game Club will be raffling off a number of items including five guns, 12 fishing rods and a variety of women’s and children’s items donated by local merchants. Raffle tickets are $5 each or a book of five for $20. They can be purchased at the Wild Game Feed, from club members and at Laddy’s in Chester and KCD’s in Lime Springs. Hopeful rafflers need not be present to win.

There will also be a separate raffle for a Pit Boss Smoker Grill. Those tickets can only be purchased the night of the Wild Game Feed.

According to the club’s Facebook page, “It is the purpose of the Lime Springs/Chester Fish & Game Club to promote good outdoor sportsmanship, protection and conservation of our natural resources, hunter safety, good fellowship among members and to reinforce the values associated with the hunting and fishing heritage.”

“We provide a safe shooting place for the community,” Bill added. “And the fishing ponds for families and kids. We’re preserving public hunting and fishing grounds for local and adjoining communities to enjoy.”

So grab your lucky hat and put on your adventure socks because, after a two-year forced hiatus for COVID, the Lime Springs/Chester Fish & Game Club’s Wild Game Feed is a go. 

So go. Eat. Win. And maybe join the club yourself. “We’re looking for more active members and board members to take the club into the future,” Bill said.

A future preserving the natural heritage and traditions of the past. With venison goulash and broasted pheasant. Not a bad gig, if you can get it.
