First Baby of Year Contest

Howard County - The Times Plain Dealer is all about traditions. Last week  was the annual Christmas section, where letters from elementary students were published. 

Another tradition is helping local businesses give away goodies to the lucky family who has the first baby of the year. It’s a great way to welcome the area’s newest bundle of joy into the community!

Parents who are expecting very near the beginning of 2022 may be eligible to win a large selection of prizes donated by local merchants. 

Who will the lucky parents be? Will it be a girl? Will it be a boy? Will it be twins? No one knows, but one thing is for certain — the lucky first baby of 2022 will receive a warm welcome with a variety of gifts donated by the local business community.

To claim the honor of the Times Plain Dealer’s “First Baby:” 

• The baby must be born after 12 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2022 at Regional Health Services of Howard County, with notification to paper within three days of delivery.

•Parents must reside in Howard County or surrounding counties in Iowa and Minnesota.

• The family must be willing to have a photo and article published in Times Plain Dealer.

Businesses who are sponsoring the contest and their gift include: CUSB Bank (gift certificate), Regional Health Services of Howard County (Chamber Dollars), O’Henry’s Stitches & Prints (gift), Holstrom’s Gift & Jewelry (silver spoon), Plantpeddler (gift certificate), Quilter’s Garden (baby gift), Dough & Joe (gift certificate), Times Plain Dealer (year’s subscription to TPD), Fareway (Huggies), Fireman’s Inn (gift certificate) and CIA Insurance (gift certificate) and Marti & Company (bow tie for a boy or headband for a girl).
