Disturbance on top of building finds individual taken in safely by officials

CRESCO - The Cresco Fire Dept., Cresco Police, Howard County Sheriff’s Dept. and Iowa State Police were all called in on Monday, Aug. 7 as an unstable individual was on top of a rooftop of a downtown Cresco building, located at 219 North Elm Street.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. officials took the call to find an agitated person on top of the two story building, with no assurance that he would not injury himself.
The Cresco Fire Dept. was called in to bring their ladder truck, which they set up in front of the building, while officals tried talking the man down toward the back of the building.
The man, who was holding several items and did get close to the edges of the roof at times, eventually asked to talk with a reporter from the Cresco TPD. The newspaper sent over a representative, assuring officers to tell the individual he would hear his story.
Fortunately, a state trooper and a Howard County Sheriff officer (who were on the stair-step roof in back) convinced the individual to climb down off the building with the assurance he can talk with the reporter, which he did.
Look for more information in next week’s newspaper.
