CVRSPA to meet

 

Riceville - The March meeting of the Cedar Valley Retired School Personnel Association was held at noon on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Windy Tree Caff in Riceville. There were 10 members present and three guests present.
The meeting was called to order by Vice-President, Karlos McClure, with the Pledge of Allegiance at 12:05 p.m. Ellen Klomp led the group in prayer.
Following the lunch, guest speaker Merri Cross from the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals gave a presentation. Her main job is to travel NE Iowa and help people who provide food service to understand the rules and why they must follow the rules. 
Examples of food services include grocery stores, vending machines, open food vendors, schools, flooded food businesses and food businesses affected by fire. She has provided service to Mason City at time of flooding, Cresco golf course during flooding and Inwood Ballroom in Spillville.
The minutes from the November meeting were reviewed. Charlotte Kirkegaard moved to approve the minutes and Klomp seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Janice Pesek gave the Treasurers Report. Kendra Kleespie moved to approve and Bonnie Neubauer seconded. Motion carried.
Area reporters from Elma, Lime Springs, Ridgeway, Cresco, Osage and Riceville reported on members and past members from their areas. Marian Anderlik was in the hospital. Ruth Sponheim reported she sent Christmas cards to our alumni members.
“Honorary Members” on page 10 in the Yearbook is now renamed “Alumni Members.”
The District 3 meeting will be held, Thursday, May 4, in Cresco at the Heritage Events Center, 40-50 area members are expected to attend.
Kirkegaard moved that the May Planning Committee be the Nomination Committee for the April meeting agenda. Pesek volunteered to continue as treasurer. All other offices are open unless someone volunteers their name. The committee will present the names at the April meeting.
Kirkegaard gave the group some simple strategies to help a person stay young: brain — turn up the tunes, eyes — eat greens, face — get more sleep and hear — be gung-ho for hugs.
Volunteer hours for March: general volunteer — 62, education volunteer — 33 and misc — 25, for a total of 120.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 17, noon at the Windy Tree Caff. Hostess will be Mercedes Baethke, 563-547-2206. Please let Baethke know if you can’t attend or are bringing a guest by noon Friday, April 14.
Kleespie moved to adjourn the meeting 1:45 p.m. Kirkegaard seconded. Motion carried.
