Cresco woman charged with Child Endangerment - Death

CRESCO - On May 11, 2023 at 9:23 a.m., Shirley Marlene Weber, age 68 of Cresco, Iowa, was taken into custody for Child Endangerment - Death, from an incident that occurred on June 28, 2022.
On that date, it is charged that while Weber was providing daycare services to 10 children at her residence, she placed child L.S., born on March 1, 2021, in a car seat. Only the top buckle was buckled, this ultimately caused L.S. to slip down in his car seat,causing him to be choked by the top buckle, which caused his death.
In its paperwork, Cresco Police Department state Weber failed to provide proper supervision, which resulted in the death of L.S. Although not required, she was not licensed through the State of Iowa.
Weber was released on a $25,000 bond on May 11. The defendant was informed that she is entitled to a preliminary hearing. That hearing is scheduled for May 31 at 11:30 a.m.
