Cresco man tops off four months of lottery luck

CRESCO - Randall Oelmann of Cresco unexpectedly took two days of PTO on July 11-12 from his job at Alum-Line. 

Nobody argued with him.

He had a good excuse. Oelmann had to cash in his $100,000 winning “Cash” scratch game!

“Saturday morning, between 9:30 and 10, I went to (Cresco) Fareway to get a few groceries. I decided to buy a couple lottery tickets. It was a new one.”

Oelmann had a winner on just one line. When he scratched the dollar amount, he thought he had scratched the wrong one. “I couldn’t believe it!”

He wasted no time on cashing it in. Monday he drove to Mason City to get his check. 

He then purchased a new truck . . . well new to him. He traded in his 2005 GMC Sierra truck for a newer model — a 2014! In addition, he put some money away, and purchased some little things for friends and took care of a few things for himself. 

“But the list keeps going on and on,” Oelmann joked!

The $100,000 was the biggest prize he has ever won, although it wasn’t his first big win of the year . . . or even the second.

“It started on March 11. I won $500 in Decorah. Since then, I won a total of seven $500 prizes. One time, I won three in less than four days!” 

He also won $1,000 in Decorah on Sept. 3, 2021 and $5,000 in Gary, Ind. several years ago.

He said he needs to buy some Powerball tickets now.
