Crane collapses, kills man

Chester - The Howard County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call in Chester, Iowa on July 11, 2018, at 3:53 p.m., in which a man was found lying under a crane boom.
The man was identified as Timothy J. “Marlon” Brandau, age 56, of Chester. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Howard County Medical Examiner.
Sheriff Mike Miner stated Mr. Brandau had been working at his place of business next to Laddy’s Bar & Grill. He was putting an extension on his boom, when he knocked out a connection pin. The top part of crane collapsed on him, pinning him between the boom and the ground.
Funeral services are scheduled for July 20. See full obituary on page 14.
