Christensens attend White House Easter Egg Roll

Washington, D.C. - Olivia Christensen of near Saratoga entered the lottery to be part of the White House Easter Egg Roll, held the Monday after Easter. The family found out just three weeks before the big event that she had been chosen to attend and had to find airline tickets and hotel rooms, but it was worth it!
Husband Barry said, “It was exciting to go. We [including eight-year-old son, Spencer] flew out the Thursday before and did some sight-seeing. We did the egg roll and flew back the next day.”
The family visited the Smithsonian Institute. “Spencer learned about the Declaration of Independence and Constitution in school at Osage [third grade], so he was excited to see that,” Barry noted.
They also toured the capitol and visited the National Art Gallery and the National Archives and learned about the history of the Cherry Blossoms on a ranger run. The family was just a week shy of the official Cherry Blossom Festival.
On Monday, there were an estimated 35,000 people present. The day is split into 5-6 sessions of two hours each. Christensens knew their time slot when they got their confirmation. They were just one group behind the one that was able to see the Trump family, but they did meet Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to the President.
Approximately 15,000 gift bags were given to the excited kids. Barry said there was the official wooden easter egg and other commemorative items in the bag.
Both Barry and Olivia had been to Washington, D.C. before, but it will be hard to top Spencer’s first trip, as he stood 15 feet from the White House during the Easter Egg Roll.
Barry encouraged others to sign up for the lottery next year. “It doesn’t cost anything.” There are about 300,000 requests, with just a portion being selected. But just like the real lottery, a person can’t win if he or she doesn’t sign up.
