Chester Community Center fund-raisers

Chester - The Community Center in Chester is one of the main venues in the area for events. It accommodates wedding dances, banquets, craft shows and more.
All buildings need maintenance and remodeling to keep them thriving parts of the community. Chester is doing its part with a three-phase project, which started last fall.
The first portion (a new steel roof), as well as the second (gym redo - completely insulated, new walls, wiring, lighting and new paint) are both completed.
Phase 3 is remodeling the hallway and bathrooms as well as updating the kitchen and redoing the gym floor.
Pam Wendel explained some upcoming fund-raisers, including a Harvest Jam on Sept. 16.
Thinking outside the box is something Chesterites do quite frequently. Harvest Jam, which is from 5-9 p.m., includes musical entertainment and food.
The meal includes sloppy joes, salads, chips and dessert. The Community Center Board will have a cash bar.
The Petit Duo will play from 5-7, and Rich Jones and Friends will perform from 7-9 p.m. Admission and food is a free-will donation, with proceeds going toward the building fund.
Another new idea is Brew N’ Bites on Nov. 4. This is a beer-tasting event with little bites of food.
The Board stayed with local contractors and volunteers for the work being done. Martin Rice (Bulldawg Construction) did the carpentry work. Rich’s Electric did the wiring, and Ceiling Pro did the new ceiling. Andy Ness did all the painting. He and others donated part or all of their labor.
The City of Chester issued a GO Bond for the gym interior. Donations and grants went toward this phase as well.
Anyone wanting to donate to this worthy cause can mail a donation to Box 93, Chester, IA 52134.
Wendel concluded, “I would like to thank the community for their continued support of the Chester-Lime Springs Community Center. This project would not have been possible without it.”
