Accident west of Davis Corners

Highway 9 - On May 18 at 9:56 a.m., the Howard County Sheriff’s Department received a call for a motor vehicle accident at Highway 9 and Lilac Avenue in Howard County.
A semi driven by Richard Lane, 65 from Cresco, was attempting to cross Highway 9 on Lilac and was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Harold Buttolph, 89 from Elma.
Buttolph’s vehicle became lodged under the trailer of the semi, and he needed to be extricated by Riceville firefighters. He was transported to Regional Health Services in Cresco where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
The semi driver, Richard Lane, was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The Howard County Sheriff’s office, Iowa Department of Transportation, Regional Health Services, Howard County First Responders and Riceville Fire Department responded to the accident.
The SUV was towed by Cresco Towing & Recovery.
The accident was investigated by Howard County Deputy Richard Hollenbeck.
