FOREST CITY - The Forest City Indians built a 28-point halftime lead and didn’t allow the Crestwood girls’ basketball team to rally in the second half as Forest City cruised to a 77-35 win over the Cadets on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in the Region 4 semifinals. The loss ended Crestwood’s season at 9-14 overall.
The Indians led 20-12 after one period and went on a 31-11 run in the second period to take a 51-23 halftime lead. Forest City took advantage of a 19-2 third period run to build a 70-25 lead going into the fourth period.
“Forest City is a very good team,” Cadet Girls’ Head Coach Dale Dennler said. “Their quickness bothered us in the full court, which allowed them to jump out to an early lead.
“We responded to their energy and quickness to close the gap to 12-20 at the end of the first quarter but then they started hitting their three-pointers. They hit 13 three-pointers on the night, which really extended their advantage in the second quarter.
“I am really proud of how hard the girls worked during the season and the growth we made during the year. We were playing our best basketball at the end of the season. We need to take what we learned this year and continue to work hard in the off-season to prepare for another exciting season next year,” Dennler said.
Charley Curtis led Crestwood with 16 points, including four three-pointers, had three rebounds and one steal. Mea Shelton had seven points, including one three-pointer, five rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block. Lydia Williams had six points, one rebound, one steal and one block.
