Crestwood track teams excel at NEIC Indoor Meet

DECORAH - Competing in the final Northeast Iowa Conference Indoor Meet at Luther College on March 25, the Crestwood girls’ and boys’ track teams both turned in many strong performances. No team scores were recorded.
In the girls’ meet, Ava Johnson took third for the Cadets in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 9.47 seconds. Johnson was also third in the high jump at four feet, six inches.
Isabella Schlatter took second in the long jump at 16-11.75.
Rose Niewoehner took gold in the shot put with a toss of 87-2.5 and Korey Hrdlicka was second at 37-2.5.
Charley Curtis nabbed second in the 55 meter dash in 7.68 and Lily Troendle took third in 7.73.
The Cadet girls’ 4x800 relay team was third in 11:14.50. The 4x200 relay team took second in 1:51.80. The distance medley squad took second in 4:43.83.
Mea Shelton placed third in the 200 meter dash in 28.72. Ava Daley was second in the 800 meters in 2:45.83.
“We had a great showing at the NEIC indoor meet with many outstanding performances in all events,” Cadet Girls’ Coach Karen Steffen said. “We have a lot to work on, but overall are looking good for this time of the season.
“In shot put, we placed first (Rose) and second (Korey), and also saw three personal bests (Rose, Zoey, and Piper). The throwers have shown vast improvement in shot, and are ready to move on to throwing discus as we transition to outdoor meets.
“In the long jump, Isabella & Lily placed second and third. Taylor also jumped her personal best, and is showing lots of potential to hit 15 feet this season. We should be able to score points consistently this season with all of our jumpers.
“In the running event, our top three placers included: Ava Johnson (third) 55 m hurdles;  Charley (second) and Lily (third) in 55 dash; Mea in 200 dash (third); Ava Daley (second) and Alexis (third) in 800.
“In the relay events, 4x800 - Laney, Ava Daley, Ella Dennler and Bryleigh took third; in the 4x200 - Charley, Lily, Taylor, Ella Otters were second - super close to first at the finish - almost caught Decorah at the line; 1600 Medley - Isabella, Aubrey, Mea, Laney took second; the 4x400 - Ella O., Taylor, Hadley, Bryleigh were third with one of the best 4x400 relay times we’ve had in a couple years!” Steffen said.
In the boys’ meet, Aidan Skoda took first in the 55 meter dash in 6.68 and Finnegan Donlan was second in 6.85. Skoda was also first in the 200 dash in 24.12 and Nathan Ahern took third in 24.36.
The distance medley team placed second in 4:09.27.
Nathan Ahern won gold in the 800 meters in 1:58.71.
Nate Mahr won the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 0.5 inches.
