While at the University of Iowa, she met Nicholas Owings, from Iowa City, Iowa. The two were engaged in 2003 and were married at St. Mary's in Iowa City on Sept. 24, 2005. The couple moved to North Liberty in 2007 and welcomed their son, Kieran James in 2009 and Olivia Ann in 2011. The family moved to Swisher in 2015.
Nicole worked at a variety of organizations during her time in the Iowa City area. She originally worked at the UIHC in multiple roles throughout college and after. She left the UIHC and joined Medirevv in 2007 and was among the organization’s first groups of employees. After staying at home for a few months after the birth of her daughter in 2012, she joined Sedgwick when the company opened up a new office in the Coralville area in late 2012.  While the life that Nicole lived was shorter than she and her family would have liked, the Owings family did extensive traveling with their kids. In the last two years the family took two vacations to Disney World in Florida, trips to Chicago, Des Moines, the Twin Cities and to Wisconsin Dells. The memories that were made on these trips will last a lifetime. The family has vowed to keep this tradition and bring their memories of Nicole with them when they travel.
