LEROY - Funeral services for Melvin L. “Mel” Eastland will be held 2:30 P.M. Friday February 28, 2025 at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, MN with Dr. Donna Ihns officiating. Burial will be at the Chester Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. There will be a gathering and light lunch following the burial at the LeRoy Community Center.  

Melvin Lee Eastland, age 81 of Riceville, IA died Sunday February 23, 2025 at his home.

Mel was born January 11, 1944 to Lorimer and Helen (Jones) Eastland in Riceville, IA and was a lifelong resident of Oakdale Twp.  He was united in marriage to Judy Fortney on July 12, 1975 and had three children, Marcia, Sara and Brian. He was the owner of the Oakdale Pallet Factory for many years. Mel enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling and having coffee and cookies.

Mel is survived by his wife Judy of Riceville, children, Marcia (Sean) Wells of Lime Springs, Sara (Brian) Steinberg of Amherst, NY and Brian (Beth) Eastland of Cresco, IA, grandchildren, LyAnne Wells, Colten Miller, Kelly Miller, Naomi Lund, Carsten Lund, Teagan Lund, Dean Steinberg and Annica Steinberg, siblings, Mercedes (Kenneth) Winkles of LeRoy, MN and Loren (Dorothy) Eastland Riceville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorimer and Helen Eastland.
