CRESCO - Lidwin "Pat" (Lansing) McCabe of Cresco, IA, passed away at home peacefully and quietly at the age of 91 on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Lidwin was the 3rd child of Fredoline Teresa (Remke) and Walter Bertrand Lansing. She was born on April 25, 1933, and raised on their farm in Ossian, IA. She graduated from St Francis Desales High School in 1951 and went on to graduate with her lab technician degree from the Mount Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids in 1953.
Pat met her husband, Arthur ("Jack") at the Ossian skating rink. They married on December 29, 1954, at St Francis Desales Church in Ossian, IA. They were married for 55 years.
Pat was a devoted wife and mother and loved her family immensely. She taught her kids by example. She worked tirelessly baking bread, pies, cakes and cooking great big meals for all of them to enjoy together. She raised a garden that was unparalleled in size and was able to provide fresh food for her family year-round. In addition to baking and cooking Pat was an avid sewer and a fabulous quilter. Later in life you would find her engaging in a competitive game of Scrabble. She was a wonderful mother who was always there offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance.
Pat was a devout Catholic throughout her entire life. She held an unwavering faith in God. She enjoyed attending Mass and found comfort when praying the Rosary.
Pat is survived by her 8 children: Kevin (Pam) McCabe, Terry McCabe, Steven McCabe, Alan (Leslie) McCabe, Patty (George) Norek, Jackie (Mark) Schreur, Joy Pfuhl (Dan Van Hoozer) Scott (Margaret) McCabe, 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pat is also survived by her sister Geri Maloy; and brothers-in-law Terrence Cobry, Robert Pankow and Charles Nutt.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and infant baby boy, her brother Lawrence Lansing, her sisters Betty Welter, Esther Cobry, Rosalind Henneberry, Vi Pankow, Inez Nutt, Gladys Didesch, her sister-in-law Arlene Lansing, her brothers-in-law John Welter, Al Didesch, Melvin Henneberry, and Michael Maloy, her son-in-laws Phillip Pfuhl and Donald Pizza and her daughter-in-law, Kim McCabe.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA, officiated by Father Jacob Rouse. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, and will continue for 1 hour prior to the start of the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will take place at a later date.
