CRESCO - John "Jack" Polashek, 67, of Protivin, IA, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at his home.
A memorial service for John was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Holy Trinity Parish in Protivin with Deacon Jim Zajicek officiating. He was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
John Albert Polashek was born July 10, 1957 in Cresco, IA to Robert and Lillian (Riha) Polashek. He was united in marriage to Nancy Meirick on May 8, 1982, and together they had two beautiful children. John worked at Featherlite Trailers in Cresco for 36 years. Following his retirement, he began hauling meat for Polashek's Locker.
John could usually be found sitting in his garage listening to polka, watching traffic, drinking coffee and often having some cold beers with friends. He enjoyed turtle fishing with his friends; some old, some new and playing a lot of softball back in his day. There were a couple of things that brought John immense joy in his life, and that was mowing the lawn and eating his all-time favorite food, hamburgers. He was a man who loved the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his wife Nancy Polashek, children Katie Polashek of Protivin, Michael & Sarah Balik Polashek and one granddaughter Penny Polashek of Clermont, IA, brothers Paul and Joe, sisters Theresa and Janice and their spouses, mother and father-in-law Bill and Ann Meirick, several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Iris Polashek, sister-in-law Kate and brother-in-law Bruce.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Howard County Cancer Association (HoCA) or Winneshiek County Hospice.
