CRESCO - Jerome “Jerry” Erdahl, age 80 of Cresco, Iowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Cresco. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will take place privately at a later date at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Lindstrom Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Jerome Harold Arlo Erdahl was born July 31, 1937 in Riceville, Iowa to Leonard and Emma (Verlo) Erdahl. He was baptized at South Blue Earth Church and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Cresco. He graduated from Cresco High School in 1955. Jerry married Shirley Kach on Aug. 18, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco.
After one year at Luther College and one year at Iowa State, Jerry partnered with his brothers in Erdahl’s Hatchery & Feed Store. He spent most of his working years in sales, employed by Iowa Veterinary Supply, Moorman Feeds and Erickson & Prochaska Real Estate selling Wausau homes.
Jerry returned to college after 25 years to become a nursing home administrator. He managed homes in Elkader, Elma and Cresco (Evans Home). He was long time member of First Lutheran Church, where he served in several capacities including church council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading ammunition and trapshooting. He was always very proud of his family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley; his four children, Kathy Menning of Cresco, Julie (Jeff) Miller of Cresco, Brian (Gail) Erdahl of Ankeny, Iowa and Jason (Dawn Anderson) Erdahl of New Hampton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Len (Arlene) Erdahl; sister-in-law, Gloria Hove; sister-in-law, Carol (John) Hove; and brother-in-law, Gerald (Ann) Kach; along with several cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeMar and Milford; sisters-in-law, Wilma and Linda; sister, Emma Jean; brother-in-law, Paul Hove; and nephew, Kirk Hove.
