CRESCO - Glenn Francis Pecinovsky was born September 16, 1947 in Cresco, Iowa. His parents were William G. & Helen (Stika) Pecinovsky. In 1965, Glen graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and worked at a gas station. While living in Cedar Rapids he met and married Sheila Brawner. Together they had two children, Colleen and Shawn. They later moved to Calmar, Iowa and Glen found employment as the town's Policeman. The family next moved to the farm that Glen grew up on, located north of Protivin. During this time, Glen worked in Cresco as a tool and die machinist. After the couple divorced, Glen moved to Florida and lived there for 35 years.
In Florida, Glen became a master tool and die specialist. He would claim that if you provided him with a valid blueprint, he could make anything out of a chunk of metal. He excelled in his profession at Aggogle (injection molding), Hi-Stat Manufacturing (Automotive Sensors), and Sun Hydraulics LLC (Hydraulic Valves). He retired in 2010 and moved to Protivin.
A friend in Florida gave Glen the nickname "Pinky" because he always wore pink. Glen embraced the theme and painted his van and boats pink. He claimed the pink color calmed the people around him because they could easily be agitated by his truthful opinions. Glen never sugar coated his words, nor would he ever say no to request for help if you were truly in need.
Glen enjoyed adventure. He said he worked to afford to travel. Trips took him to every state in the union along with several overseas countries. Glen's most memorable trips were to the Philippines where he embraced the locals' sincere hospitality. He loved to be around the ocean and excelled at boating and sailing. His passion was fishing everywhere he lived. After moving back to Iowa, Glen spent countless mornings at the Bohemian Creek, just outside of Protivin, catching trout to share with family and friends.
Glen is survived by his two children, daughter, Colleen (Charles) Randall and son, Shawn (Carla) Pecinovsky along with 7 grandchildren: Cody (Jessica) Randall, Jacob Randall, Alex (Katrina) Randall, Sara and Ava Randall, Jean Baptiste and Nour Pecinovsky. Two great-grandchildren: Leo and Elliot Randall. One sibling, Rebecca Neuzil, best friend Merna Galvin, along with 3 nephews, 6 nieces and many wonderful cousins. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his one brother, Dennis.
A Celebration of Life to honor Glen will be held on Sunday, August 3rd at the Protivin Community Center from noon to 4pm with a meal served. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink to the celebration.
