Daniel Henry, 39

CRESCO - Daniel Jacob Henry, age 39, of Cresco, passed away on Sept. 6, 2023 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.  

On Nov. 1, 1983, Dan was born in Cresco to Michael and Jessie (Schorr) Henry.  He grew up in the Cresco area and graduated from Crestwood High School in 2002.  While in high school, he worked at Fareway and Evans Memorial Home.  He then went on to work at Cresco Food Technologies (later AVEKA) for 18 years, starting at the bottom and working his way up to Project Manager.

Dan was an avid Colts fan and enjoyed organizing sports pools, especially NFL football. He would post results both in the breakroom and the bar.  He was always excited to let people know how the competition was going.  He enjoyed cooking, not taking the task lightly.  He would spend hours chopping, simmering, brining or smoking something.  He liked to create new recipes and collected cookware.

He had a passion for collecting and shooting guns, putting together elaborate Lego sets and enjoying the perfect cup of coffee.  Socializing with friends and family at his nephew Cooper’s bar, Sweeney’s Lounge (formerly The Hideaway), while enjoying some Black Velvet Toasted Caramel.

Dan was a very talented artist.  We all loved his drawings, paintings, pottery and photography.  He loved music and would introduce others to all kinds of different types.  He also enjoyed playing guitar.  His other hobbies included snowboarding, shooting pool and playing golf.  He was an avid car and aviation enthusiast.

Dano’s legacy will live on in many people.  He was an organ donor and was able to give several gifts.

Dan will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  Those left to cherish his memory are his father Mike Henry, mother Jessie and step-father Bruce Ring, sister Sybil Henry, sister Rachel and brother-in-law Jeromy Sweeney, sister Steph and brother-in-law Tanner Lalumondier, nephew Cooper Sweeney, niece Memphis Sweeney, sisters Reina and Risa and brothers Reno and Riley Running Enemy, uncles and aunts Dick & Linda Schorr and Steve and Laurie Henry, many cousins and a large group of great friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Joyce Henry, David and Wilma Schorr, uncle Dan Schorr and aunt Carolyn Henry.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at McAllister’s/ Heritage Events Center (229 3rd Ave W Cresco, IA) from 4 to 7 p.m.  Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
