Alvin Wendt, 87

July 28, 1937 - July 18, 2025

 

Alvin "Al" Wendt, 87, a lifelong Stewartville area farmer, passed away on Friday (July 18, 2025) of natural causes, surrounded by his family, at his home.

Alvin Albert Wendt was born July 28, 1937 in Mower County to Herman and Lola (Bamlet) Wendt.  He attended Stewartville schools and graduated in 1956.  After graduation he began farming the Wendt Family Farm and working part-time as a mechanic for Glover Bus Service, Sass Implement, and House Chevrolet. Alvin was married on October 10, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Twsp to Alice Everts. They have spent their life on the Wendt Family Farm raising their children where they taught them about crop farming, milking cows, and raising beef cattle. Alice was a farmwife and homemaker. In 1980, Al was employed at IBM  in Rochester for 13 years until his retirement. 

Alvin was a lifelong member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and served as president.  Al and Alice were youth advisors at Immanuel Lutheran for many years.  Al was also the treasurer of the High Forest Township Board for 44 years.  His hobby was going up north fishing with his friends. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alvin was lovingly cared for by Heartland Hospice for the past 7 months. 

Alvin is  survived by his wife Alice, daughter Brenda (Lyndon) Gerdts of Waldorf, MN.  Son Steve (Jessica) Wendt of Stewartville.  4 grandchildren; Ashley (Steve) Harguth of Waseca, Collin (Amber) Gerdts of Waldorf, Wyatt and Hunter Wendt of Stewartville, step-grandson Mathew Kuchera of Janesville.  5 great-grandchildren; Ryan and Emily Harguth, Brooklyn, Olivia, and Madison Gerdts. Brother - Edward (Jeanette) Wendt of rural Stewartville, Sister-in-law's -  Ardis Copple of Stewartville, and Debra Morton of Tucson, AZ. Brother-in-law - Don Everts of Memphis,TN and many nieces and nephews.  Alvin was preceded in death by his parents- Herman and Lola Wendt.

A funeral service took place at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley,MN on Tuesday (July 22, 2025) with Rev. Marc Frieberg Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. A time of visitation for family and friends was from 5 to 7:00 PM on Monday(July 21, 2025) at Griffin-Gray FH in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.
