Carol Jeanette Kostohryz, 79, of Cresco, passed away on October 8, 2026, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by her loving family following a long battle with cancer.

Carol was born on April 10, 1947, at Floyd County Hospital in Charles City, Iowa, to Walter and Shirley (Schultz) Meier. She attended country school near Saratoga, Iowa, through seventh grade before attending Riceville High School, graduating in May 1966. Carol married Don Vrba Sr., and their marriage was blessed with five children. Following their divorce, she married David Kostohryz on August 30, 1986, at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin, Iowa.

Carol worked at Sara Lee in New Hampton for six years before beginning a 29-year career at Stanley Engineered Fastening in Decorah, where she remained until retirement. She also enjoyed helping her husband and son on the farm.

In retirement, Carol embraced the simple joys of country living. She loved driving around the farm in her Gator with her beloved dog, Sammie, and spending time tending her garden. The kitchen was where Carol's love for her family truly shined. She enjoyed cooking and baking, often trying new recipes and adding her own special touch. She was especially known for her homemade kolaches, which will remain a cherished memory for family and friends.

Carol also enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and keeping up with the weather and news; always finding happiness in life's everyday moments. Above all, she treasured her family and the time spent together. Her kindness, love, and the memories she created will forever be held close by those who knew and loved her.

Carol is survived by her five children: Don Jr. (Tina) Vrba of Dixon, MO; Debra (Chris) Ruff of Marion, IA; Dean (Cara) Vrba of Dysart, IA; Deanna (Jason) Dickinson of Cassville, MO; and Danny (Rachel) Vrba of Cresco, IA; grandchildren: Meghan (Nick) Goodrich, Jordyn Vrba, Isaac and Ian Vrba, Eryca and Taryn Martin, Bradan and Drew Dickinson, Mason, Lexus, and Alayna Vrba; great-grandchildren: Blaire and Jackson Goodrich; along with nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog, Sammie.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents, Walter and Shirley; her sister, Sharon Kovarik; and her nephew, Steve Kovarik.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on October 17th, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin, Iowa. Visitation was at 9:00 a.m. at the church, with burial following the Mass.  Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family.
