Leone A. Ferrie, age 74

Leone A. Ferrie, age 74, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away after a long battle with cancer since February 2024. 

Public visitation for Leone will be held at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, Cresco, Iowa, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. 

Leone Agnes Ryan was born on May 23, 1952 to Ed and Evelyn (Balik) Ryan. She was united in marriage to Tom Ferrie in August of 1981 in Schley, Iowa. She was loved by her family and the countless students who she interacted with in her 31 years of educating Preschool and Head Start students. 

When she wasn’t teaching or spending time with her family, Leone enjoyed the great outdoors, especially kayaking and catching fish from her kayak, camping by the big oak tree at Lake Hendricks in Riceville, sitting in front of a fire watching the smoke and sparks whirl into the sky, and back in the day she even enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter. Leone liked baking treats, sipping her homemade wine, and planting flowers in the spring - keeping up on the yard work year-round. 

Leone is survived by her loving husband Tom and their children Eric (Catina), Travis (Kim), Matthew (Alexa); grandchildren Max, Bryson, Lyndsey, Bishop, and Hollan; siblings Ruth Kamp, Theresa Smith and her son Chris; Ethel (Don) Sylling and their children Michelle and John; Tim (Sharon) Ryan and their sons Rodney and Dustin;  brother-in-law Robert Maroushek and children Rhonda and Dawn (Nic); Lois Ryan; Frank (Marilyn) and their children Elizabeth (Dave), Curtis, and Laura; Robert Ryan; Anita Ryan and her daughter Amanda. 

Also surviving her are Tom’s family John and his children Michael, Kimberly and Kenny; MaryJane (Randy) Leach and their sons Troy and Jason; Pat (Tom) Milz and their sons Steve and Scott; Linda (Doug) Smith and their children Taylor, Logan and Kenzie; Al (Sue Ann) Ferrie and stepdaughter Amy. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Phyllis Maroushek, Lois Ryan, Robert Ryan; siblings-in-law Kenny Kamp and Rick Smith; nephews Brent Smith and Carl.
