Larry Sweeney, 76

   Larry D. Sweeney, age 76, of Riceville, IA died February 14, 2026 at the University of IA Health Center in Iowa City. He was born November 11, 1949 in Osage, IA to Joseph and Viola (O’Keef) Sweeney. He attended and graduated from Riceville, HS in 1968 and was drafted into the United States Army in August of 1968.  He served in the Army Med-Corp in Vietnam until he was discharged in 1970. After his discharge he attended Austin Vo-Tech.  Larry was united in marriage to Mary Ann Wyatt on August 3, 1970 at Fort Shafter in Hawaii and together had three boys; Scott, Jeromy and Nick. Over the years Larry worked at numerous jobs in maintenance before owning his own appliance store in Riceville for several years.  In his spare time he enjoyed going to the racetrack, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.

   Larry is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Riceville, sons; Scott (Missy) of Spring Valley, MN, Jeromy (Rachel) of Cresco, IA, and Nick (Chastidy) of LeRoy, MN, 6 grandchildren; Skyler, Wesley, Cooper, Memphis,  Gavin and Carter   and 1 great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by one sister Kay Kelly of Brooklyn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Patrick a sister-in-law Dorothy and 4 brothers-in-law Don, Pete, Jerry and Tom.

   A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 noon until 3pm at Goosey’s in McIntire, IA on Saturday March 28, 2026  for Larry. Military Rites will take place prior to the celebration at 11am on the 28th at the Veterans Memorial Park in McIntire.
