Buehler is Kiwanis Layperson of the Year, wins District Award

CRESCO - Kelly Buehler of Cresco is the local Kiwanis 2018-2019 Layperson of the Year. In addition, she was given the Nebraska-Iowa District Kiwanis International 2018-2019 Layperson of the Year Division Award at the Cresco Kiwanis regular October meeting.
The elementary teacher is definitely a community-minded individual. She has served as president of Cresco Kiwanis, as well as other positions within the organization. Buehler has co-chaired the Moo Mobile during the Mighty Howard County Fair. She has been responsible for the Kiwanis Dictionary Project, given to the elementary students, for several years.
She has helped clean and re-seal the bronze statues that are located in Cresco and around Howard County, and she is willing to volunteer with other fund-raisers associated with Cresco Kiwanis.
Buehler is involved with her church, participating in various activities, confirmation classes, communion, projections, ushering and more.
She received glowing letters of recommendation from fellow Kiwanis members.
Richard Holten stated, “Kelly is a fine example of a kind, generous and devoted individual to all she encounters. She does this with extreme enthusiasm and genuine compassion, which she has shown to all of her students and fellow teachers.”
Fellow teacher Michelle Ihde noted, “Kelly is an inspiration, as she has dealt with difficult challenges in her life. I watched her face the death of a spouse and through her faith and love, single-handedly raised two intelligent, beautiful and caring daughters from the time they were youngsters.
“Kelly is a commendable member of the Cresco community. She cares about making Cresco the best place to live.”
Ihde continued, “She exemplifies the type of person whoshould be honored as the Layperson of the Year.”
Doug Berg said, “Kelly recently completed her 27th year of teaching. Her devotion to the children of the district and her commitment to helping kids become high-quality citizens of the community is amazing.
“Kelly has played a key role in establishing the Cresco Kiwanis Chapter as a premier service organization in the city of Cresco and the state of Iowa. She is always willing to pitch in and help, whether it’s the high school football night tailgates, Mother’s Day Brunch, Moo Mobile malt-making, cleaning and painting the statues of Cresco, attending to the Kiwanis donation garden or any task she is asked to help with. She is truly an asset to the community.”
