CRESCO - The morning coffee group and diners at Sue-Z-Qs on May 12 were shocked when there was a crash in the southeast corner of the building as a van came through the wall. Luckily neither the driver nor any of the dozen or so patrons were badly hurt.
One man sitting near the booth closest to the accident received a cut on the face. One regular, Marge Jackson, noted he was not a local, but a truck driver who was waiting for his trailer to get fixed.
At approximately 8:10 a.m. Bill Gooder probably hit the gas instead of his brakes and crashed through the wall. Jackson said she heard a big bang and then another. “I thought it was a shooting or something.”
Another customer said, “Startled is a good word.” She went on to say one man was knocked out of the booth.
Another gentleman said someone is usually sitting in that particular booth. “Today was a lucky day.”
Sue-Z-Qs ended up closed for the day until repairs can be made to the building.
The accident is under investigation by Cresco Police Department. Other agencies helping were Regional Health Services Ambulance and Howard County Sheriff Department.
