Polashek's Meat Locker receives five awards at convention in Ames

PROTIVIN - Polashek’s Meat Locker in Protivin recently brought home five awards from the Iowa Meat Processors Convention! 

The Polashek family has been in business for 41 years, starting originally in 1983, when Paul and Judy Polashek bought the meat locker. They are unique in the way that they cater to customer’s needs, and how they are willing to bend over backwards to get everything just right. Adam Poleshek describes how “everybody works hard”, and that the team working there has been “for many years, so they have a lot of experience”. Polashek’s is well-loved by the community and farmers, with every day being busy with businesses and local customers. 

Inside the locker, all different types of meat are pre-packaged to sell. Some of the most popular items include the famous snack sticks, made in 16 different flavors. Some of the flavors offered are bacon and cheese, cheese and jalapeños, pineapple, cranberries, and many more. 

Bacon is also a favorite, and is known for being more economically sound considering the amount of meat provided against other store-bought brands, heavy with water weight. Also sold in shop are wieners, rope sausage, polish sausage, ground beef, and beef jerky, to name a few. In grocery stores around Iowa, you can find Polashek’s name a logo displayed proudly on their products, helping to reach customers that normally wouldn’t be able to come and visit due to their rural location.

They also work with local restaurants in the area to provide them with fresh, quality meat. 

 Polashek’s offers butchering services, too, with a price breakdown located on their website. Anything from the initial slaughtering, to the sausage making with either pork or beef can be done. 

The Iowa Meat Processors Convention was held in Ames this year, and took place February 15-17, at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center. Awards were presented based on outward appearance, internal appearance, and taste.
