Peace Officer Memorial Day Ceremonies for Howard County

CRESCO - On Wednesday, May 15th, the Howard County Sheriff’s office hosted a moving ceremony in honor of Peace Officer Memorial Day. The event, led by Sheriff Rick Busch, began at 10am with a heartfelt reading paying tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement officers. 

   A moment of silence followed, allowing attendees to reflect on the bravery and service of these men and women. The American Legion, Legion riders, and VFW provided an honor guard and somber notes of taps were played by Mark Grinhaug, a poignant reminder of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Sheriff Busch then solemnly lowered the flag to half-mast, a symbolic gesture of respect for the fallen.

   The ceremony concluded with a touching prayer and words of remembrance by a local pastor, underscoring the unity and support of the community for its law enforcement officers. Despite the gravity of the occasion, the sun shone brightly, providing a sense of comfort and warmth to those in attendance.

   Following the ceremony, the American Legion Post 135 extended a warm invitation to officers, offering coffee, treats, and fellowship as a gesture of appreciation and support.

   Peace Officer Memorial Day served as a powerful reminder of the courage and selflessness displayed by law enforcement officers every day. The ceremony at the Howard County Sheriff’s office was a beautiful and poignant tribute to those who serve and protect, ensuring that their memory will be honored and cherished for years to come.
