Meredith Moore destined for London

CRESCO - Crestwood senior Meredith Moore, daughter of Josh and Barb Moore,  has been accepted into the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), and will march in the Kings Royal New Year’s Day Parade in London early January of next year.
Meredith Moore is a Cresco native, and takes pride in her community and school activities. From an early age, she has felt drawn to UNI, often looking at the campus through the windows in her grandparents home. She calls the University her “home away from home”, and has participated in the UNI marching band in recent years. Being “mesmerized” by the marching band at a young age, she knew that the college would always be her number one choice.
Moore plays several instruments including the clarinet, upright bass, violin, along with others. She has been in honor band every year since seventh grade, and participates in jazz band as well.
In her free time, Moore works part-time at Fareway and Kessel Kids Child Care and Learning Center as an Assistant Teacher. She enjoys helping young children overcome obstacles in learning and will be pursuing music education in college. Moore credits her enthusiasm for education and music to her band teacher Ms. Tia Heien, who has been a “role model” and an inspiration for her future. Moore wants to help young kids “find their passion” through music, and help them grow their music careers in a school setting.
Since being accepted into UNI, she has received the Purple Panther Scholarship Award and is in the process of raising money for the London trip. The overall cost of the trip will be close to $4,000, including traveling, meals, and other expenses. A once in a lifetime opportunity, Moore is turning to the community for help with funding. “Anything and everything helps” Moore stated, “and thank you to everyone who has donated already.”
Business owners of Fareway, Leuthold Clothing Store, Outdoors and More Inc., Kessel Kids, and Billmyer Furniture and Flooring, have all graciously allowed for fundraising buckets to be placed in their stores to support the high school student.
The King Royal New Year’s Day Parade trip will span from December 28, 2024, through January 4, 2025, with the UNI band traveling together as a group. The three and a half hour long parade will be televised.
