Fortune named new mayor of Cresco

CRESCO - A new mayor has been recently announced for the City of Cresco!
Dave Brenno officially took the Public Works Director position in early January, leaving Cresco without a mayor for a short period of time.
Recently, the City Council has been hard at work, looking at multiple applications and deliberating between applicants. City Council members gave the impression of the decision being difficult to choose, due to the highly qualified, respectable candidates who turned in their resumes.
On February 19, 2024, Alex Fortune was officially appointed Mayor of Cresco.
Fortune was originally born in Fort Dodge. His family moved to Cresco when he was still young, but returned to the Fort Dodge area by the end of his third grade year. They also ended up in Indianola for a time.
“Cresco always felt like home” to Fortune, who explained he moved back to the Cresco area in 2008.
Since moving back, he has been involved in a number of community organizations over the past 16 years. He started serving the Cresco Theatre Commission in 2012, and has been part of the City Council for many years. He is also a member of the Driftrunners Snowmobile Club, and is on the Cruise to Cresco Board.
Fortune is on the Board of Directors for his family’s company, Upper Iowa Tool and Die. This experience helps bring a business mindset to Cresco, which will be beneficial for all the new city projects that are to be completed in upcoming years.
Alex had previously applied to the Mayor position in 2019, where he lost to Brenno in the election.
When asked about his thoughts on Alex Fortune and his new title, Brenno stated that he is sure “he will do a great job.”
