CRESCO - Mary Haas, DO, joins the medical staff at Regional Health Services of Howard County this month.
Originally from the Des Moines area, Dr. Haas is a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, and received her medical education from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
She has an extensive background in emergency services, having worked as an Emergency Department Tech for several years at Mercy Des Moines before and during her medical education.
During an interview with The Cresco Times Plain Dealer, Dr. Haas said she is familiar with Northeast Iowa and happy to return to the area:
“I worked (in Cresco) in the ambulance service while at Luther, so I knew I wanted to come back,” she said. “I felt the hospital and the community was really welcoming and provided good quality medicine, so I wanted to be part of the team.”
Dr. Haas looks forward to caring for patients of all ages, including obstetrical patients.
“I’m interested in working with all types of patients: I love OB, nursing home patients; I look forward to helping them all,” she said.
A subject of particular interest to Dr. Haas is preventative medicine:
“We are always trying to stay on top of the last and best treatments,” she said. “As we see what the community wants and needs, we are doing that continuous education to keep the clinic up to date with the most effective and needed treatments for the area.”
Katie Thompson, vice president of Ancillary Services, said, “We’ve been anxiously awaiting Dr. Haas’ arrival. We love the provider group; we’ve grown here. After Dr. Vreeke left, we were without a female physician, so we are excited to have her here.”
