CRESCO - The Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame was recently granted permission to show the six-part docuseries, ‘The Dual,’ on Dec. 18-19 at 6:30 p.m. each night at the Cresco Theatre.
This marks the first time the docuseries, which focuses on the 1986 dual between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, has been shown in its entirety.
“Our board of directors for the Hall of Fame are extremely excited about this showing,” said Dennis Meirick, president of the IWHOF. “It’s our understanding that this is the first time the whole docuseries will be shown in public which is special but it also gives wrestling fans a chance to get together and watch this exciting series on a big screen. Those who have watched one of the six sessions are saying that if you are a wrestling fan, it’s fantastic.”
On Monday, Dec. 18, IWHOF member and former Iowa State Coach Jim Gibbons will be in attendance at the Cresco Theatre before the event and will be available after the event to answer questions.
The 1985-86 season was Gibbons’ first season as head coach of the Cyclones. The first night of the docuseries will also include a feature on the history of wrestling in Cresco.
On Tuesday, Dec. 19, IWHOF member and former Iowa Coach Dan Gable will be at the Cresco Theatre at 5:30 p.m. prior to the second night of the event for a book-signing. He will also speak to people in attendance in the lobby of the theatre at 6:15 p.m.
There will be a free will offering both nights and a suggested donation of $5. The concession stand at the theatre will also be open both nights.
