Cresco, Iowa -

You can’t get much more consistent at the Cresco Country Club than what the Crestwood boys’ team demonstrated last week.
The Cadets fired two rounds of 166, a score low enough to nip Oelwein by two strokes and to come out with a tie against Decorah.
Crestwood edged the Oelwein Huskies 166-168 last Wednesday then two days later circled the Cresco course with another 166, the same score as Decorah.
Coach Lynn McCormick was especially pleased with the win over Oelwein. “I think they (Huskies) are one of the top two teams in the conference,” he said. “They have a number of veteran golfers returning.”
Two of the Cadet golfers were included in the low four scores used to calculate the score in the two matches. Junior Kyle Christianson fired a 39 to share co-medalist honors against Oelwein and ended the nine holes against Decorah with a 42. Collin Lais was also consistent as he tallied a 43 against Oelwein and a 42 against Decorah.
Joining Christianson and Lais against Oelwein were Dan Miller, who joined Christianson with a 39 and Flynn Kelly with a 45. Levi Ness of Oelwein was the medalist with a 38.
Two of the Cadets were different in the match last Friday against Decorah. Senior Ian Fitzgerald had his best outing of the season with a 41 as did Brandon Neuzil. Medalist was Dusty Steffen of Decorah with a 40.
What helped the Cadets against Oelwein is that Christianson and Miller each shot a par 3 on eight and a par 4 on nine. Kelly and Lais also tallied a three on the eighth hole.
Against Decorah, it was a different story as none of the low four Cadet golfers were able to shoot a par 3  on the eighth hole – Fitzgerald, Neuzil and Lais all shot a bogey four and Christianson had a triple bogey six.
The Cadet junior varsity won both matches, upending Oelwein, 184-199, and Decorah, 189-200.
The four low junior varsity Cadet scores against the Huskies were Andy Stapelkamp, 45; Chas Malek, 45; John Thomson, 46; and Fitzgerald, 48. Other scores turned in include Ryan Hagen and Craig Ohloff, each with a 50; Nick Hagen, 52; and John Gooder and Mark Lueschow, each with a 55.
Against Decorah’s junior varsity, scores were turned in by Cadets John Thomson, 43; Dan Miller, 44; Stapelkamp, 45; Malek and Kelly, each 47; Ryan Hagen and Craig Ohloff, each 50; Lueschow, 56; Craig Murphy, 57; and Nick Hagen, 58.

Roll on Waukon course; defeat Indians; 162-189

Crestwood’s boys made the trip to Waukon golf course last week a successful one as they easily defeated the Indians, 162-189, in a Northeast Iowa Conference match.
John Thomson paced the Cadets with a 39 followed by three teammates who each tallied a 41 – Dan Miller, Andy Stapelkamp and Kyle Christianson. All four Cadets shot lower than any Indian, giving Thomson medalist honors and the other three Cadets tying for runner-up medalist. Waukon’s best score was a 42 turned by Ed Schoenthal.
Thomson was able to stay away from any serious trouble as his card included six 4s and three 5s.
Crestwood also won the junior varsity match, 182-200. The four best Cadet scores were turned by Brandon Neuzil, 44; Ian Fitzgerald, 45; Collin Lais, 46; and John Gooder, 47. Other Cadet scores included Flynn Kelly, Craig Ohloff, Nick Hagen and Chas Malek, each shooting a 49; Mike Hartberg, 50; Mark Lueschow, 51; Ryan Hagen, 52; and Curtis Murphy, 56.
