A short handed Crestwood girls golf team couldn’t overcome four good scores posted by Fillmore Central’s team as the Cadets fell 202-214 last Tuesday on the Harmony course.
The loss came on the heels of an impressive 201-232 win by the Cadets over Northeast Iowa Conference rival Waukon last Monday, April 14.
Against Fillmore Central, Kayla Kubik again led the Cadets as she posted a 49, good enough for runner-up medalist honors. Molly Engleman tallied a 51 for Crestwood with teammates Katie Malek coming in with a 56 and Tess Fosaaen carding a 58.
Crestwood golfers Samantha Thomson and Brittany Holstrom were unable to compete.
Medalist honors went to Courtney Scheevel of Fillmore Central with a 47. Two other FC golfers carded 51s plus a 53 for the win.
It was a different story last Thursday as the Cadets hosted Waukon. Thomson was the medalist with a 47 and Engleman was runner-up medalist with a 50. Kubik came in with a 51 and Malek posted a 53. Moran McMillan was low for Waukon with a 54.
Poor weather and playing conditions wiped out two scheduled matches last week as a girl-boy dual at Turkey Valley and a girls’ match at Decorah were not played. With snow in the air Monday, the boys and girls matches against New Hampton were cancelled.
The next outing for the girls is Monday, May 5, at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet scheduled at Waukon. The tournament is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. The boys are scheduled to host Clayton Ridge on Friday and Fillmore Central on Monday.
