Christianson paces Cadets in win over Charles City

    CRESCO – Junior Kyle Christianson paced the Crestwood boys golf team to their first win of the season last week as the Cadets tipped Charles City, 176-178.
    Christianson fired a 43 to lead a closely packed foursome of Cadets. Dan Miller and John Thomson were each one stroke back with a 44 and Ian Fitzgerald, fired a 45.
    The visiting Comets were led by medalist Nate Weiss, who fired a 42.
    Crestwood also won the junior varsity dual, 189-198 as Chas Malek recorded a 45, Ryan Hagen a 46, Craig Ohloff a 49 and Flynn Kelly a 49.
    The Cadets were also led by Christianson at the tough Viking Invitational played under rainy and windy conditions last Thursday on the Oneota course in Decorah. He carded a 37-40-77.
    Tying for top honors in the Decorah tournament were two Minnesota teams, Chaska and Rochester Mayo, as they each carded a score of 320. Third place went to Lakeville South (MN) at 323 followed by Oelwein, 326; Rosemount, MN, 334; Crestwood, 335; and  Decorah, 347.
    “This was a very good tournament for us in  rainy conditions,” commented Cadet coach Lynn McCormick. “I was pleased how we played, especially since we haven’t been out much this spring. This was a good experience for  our young golfers.”
    Second to Christianson for the Cadets was John Thomson with a 39-41-80 followed by Brandon Neuzil, 42-46-88; and Ian Fitzgerald, 51-39-90. Flynn Kelly carded a 50-44-94 and Dan Miller came in with a 54-43-97.
    Christianson’s 77 gave him runner-up medalist honors behind Brock Case of Rochester Mayo, who fired a 75. Thomson earned a runner-up medal in his flight.
    The Cadet schedule this week is busy as it includes a make-up dual today (Wednesday) when they host Oelwein at 3 p.m. They were to play at Waukon Monday, join the girls in a boy-girl meet at Turkey Valley tomorrow and host Decorah here Friday.
