CRESCO - A near-capacity crowd of 250 people gathered at the Howard County Fairgrounds Expo Hall for an exciting evening of good food, speeches, stories and joyful reminiscing on Saturday, July 31 at the CHS Team 100 Years of Wrestling Banquet.
Prior to the banquet, visitors to the Expo Hall had the opportunity to gaze upon and study the Cresco and Crestwood wrestling memorabilia on display, which included several photographs, trophies, plaques, newspaper articles and other items detailing the rich history of wrestling in Cresco.
Master of Ceremonies Darin Svenson welcomed the crowd to the banquet a few minutes before the meal was served.
“Tonight, you’ll be able to hear the proud intersection of a sport and the community which few communities in Iowa or beyond can match,” Svenson said. “The rich history (of Cresco wrestling) doesn’t happen without dedicated student-athletes and great community support. That’s what we’re celebrating here.”
A complete recap of the banquet will be in the Aug. 4 issue of the Times Plain Dealer.
