Powell, Mehmert, Shea grab medals at State Track Meet

DES MOINES - Battling the top athletes in Iowa at the Class 2A State Track Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines from May 18-20, the Crestwood girls’ and boys’ teams performed well as three individuals finished in the top five to take home medals.
Cadet senior Maurice Powell nabbed third place in the 100 meter dash final in a time of 10.99 seconds on Saturday. Senior Zach Mehmert captured third place in the shot put event with a throw of 53 feet, 11.5 inches on Thursday. Competing in the 3000 meters on Thursday, junior Kinze Shea placed fifth in a time of 10:37.50. Shea finished fifth in the 3000 at State in 2022. Mehmert was sixth in the shot put last year at State.
Shea also finished 15th in the 1500 meters in a time of 5:01.50. The Crestwood girls’ 4x200 team of Charley Curtis, Olivia Johnson, Lily Troendle and Aubrey Mannery finished 10th in a time of 1:47.79.
