Fousek captures fourth State Title; Schmauss, Butikofer finish in top eight

DES MOINES - No. 1 ranked Carter Fousek of Crestwood became the 31st Iowa high school wrestler to win four State Championships on Saturday, Feb. 19, after notching a 7-1 decision over No. 3 Logan Arp (43-3) of South Tama County in the title bout at 138 pounds in Class 2A at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Shortly before Fousek's title match on Saturday, Marcel Lopez of New London became the 30th four-time State Champion in Iowa after posting a win in the finals in Class 1A at 132 pounds.

The win in the finals at 138 allowed Fousek (25-1) to become Cresco/Crestwood's only four-time State Champion in school history. Cresco/Crestwood's Tom Peckham won three titles from 1960 to 1962 and Don Maland won three titles from 1932 to 1934 for Cresco High School. Fousek and Peckham are also the only two four-time district champions for Cresco/Crestwood.

Crestwood senior Cole Schmauss (39-7) placed sixth at 113 pounds, and Cadet senior Cole Butikofer (38-8) finished eighth at 152 pounds. Complete Crestwood results from the State Tournament will be in the Feb. 23 issue of the Times Plain Dealer.
