Crestwood softball team racks up wins over NH, SW, Turkey Valley

 

CRESCO - The Crestwood softball team had a good week on the diamond as it posted three wins to improve to 16-9 overall.
On June 18, the Cadets tallied three insurance runs in the sixth and held on to beat New Hampton, 7-3. 
Playing South Winn on June 19, Crestwood racked up a 6-0 win. Facing Turkey Valley at home on June 21, the Cadets took advantage of nine walks on offense and Laken Lienhard tossed a no-hitter to help Crestwood earn a 10-0 win in five innings.
Crestwood will open the Class 3A region  tournament on July 3 at home at 7 p.m. against Union. The winner will play either Osage or New Hampton on July 6. The region final will be on July 9.
 
Cadets 7, NH 3
Playing New Hampton on June 18, the Cadets held a slim 4-3 lead at the end of the fifth before tacking on three runs in the sixth on their way to a 7-3 victory.
“We had good pitching and defense,” Cadet Coach Doug Sickles said. “We also had some timely hitting. The girls really came through at the plate. Ashley Voves had a couple key hits, and Shannon Pisney also hit the ball well.”
Ashley Voves racked up three hits, scored four runs and had one run batted in. Shannon Pisney had two hits, including one double, one run and one RBI. Taylar Pecinovsky had two hits and two RBI.
Laken Lienhard had one double, one run and one RBI. Kaylee Thomas tallied one hit. Kayla Lentz had one hit and one run.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed four hits, three earned runs, no walks and struck out 11.

Cadets 6, South Winn 0
A solid night at the plate and in the pitching circle lifted the Cadets to a 6-0 win over South Winn on June 19.
Crestwood tallied three runs each in the third and seventh innings.
“Everyone on defense played well for us,” Sickles said. “Even though we didn’t have a ton on hits, but hits we had were timely. We also took advantage of some walks.”
Laken Lienhard tallied the win. She went seven innings, allowed three hits, no walks and struck out 11.
Ashley Voves posted two doubles, had one run and one RBI. Laken Lienhard, Keelee Andera and Taylar Pecinovsky each scored one run. Shannon Pisney had one hit, two runs and one RBI.
Madison Steffen scored two runs. Kayla Lentz had one hit. Trista Foster tallied one double and had two RBI.

Cadets 10, TV 0
Taking on Turkey Valley on June 21, the Cadets were patient at the plate as they drew nine walks on their way to a 10-0 win, which included a no-hitter by Crestwood pitcher Laken Lienhard.
The Cadets scored two runs in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth and finished the game with three more runs in the fifth.
“Laken’s pitching performance really took the pressure off of us against Turkey Valley,” Sickles said. “Overall, all of our girls played well.”
At the plate, Lienhard tallied one double, scored three runs, drew two walks and had two RBI. Shannon Pisney had one double, one triple, one run and four RBI. Ashley Voves had one walk and one run. 
Taylar Pecinovsky drew one walk. Madison Steffen had two walks and one run. Kaylee Thomas and Kayla Lentz each drew one walk and each scored one run. Kristen Reicks drew one walk. Annie Mast and Keelee Andera each scored one run.
Lienhard was the winning pitcher. She tossed five innings, allowed no hits, no walks and struck out 11.
