Crestwood girls' track team shines at NEIC meet

DECORAH - Taking on conference foes at the NEIC Indoor Meet at Luther last Tuesday, the Crestwood girls’ track team turned in several stellar performances. No team scores were recorded.

Cadet junior Ellie Friesen grabbed gold in the 800 (2:22.56) and the 1500 (4:41.54). Sophomore Katie Saner won gold in the 55 meter dash (7.61) and the long jump (16 feet, 4.5 inches). Hope Dohlman took third in the 1500 meter in 5:29.43.

Crestwood’s 4x200 relay team of Brynn Bodermann, Saner, Cassie Ollendieck and Annie Mast placed second in 1:55.82. The 4x400 team of Saner, Bodermann, Mast and Rachel Steffen placed third in 4:26.87. The 4x800 squad of Dohlman, Emily Friesen, Sarah Mashek and Steffen placed third in 10:52.31.

“As a team, the girls competed very well and had several good performances,” Cadet Coach Jim Obermann said. “Our relay teams looked strong, especially Brynn Bodermann and Katie Saner. I like the way we are competing, and we are showing a lot of confidence, which is nice to see.

“It was good to see Katie and Ellie both win two events. Both girls are top notch athletes. Hope Dohlman also ran well in the 1500. Our throwers, high jumpers, mid-distance runners and young hurdlers also competed well. Overall, it was a very good night for all the girls,” Obermann said.

Crestwood will compete at the North Fayette Valley Invite March 31 and will compete at Postville April 4.
