CRESCO - The 2017 Crestwood girls’ golf team will have the advantage of experience and numbers when the squad hits the links this spring, weather permitting.
This year’s squad will feature 11 total golfers, including three returning letterwinners. The returning letterwinners for the Cadets include: Ashley Voves, Haley Martin and Megan Ferrie.
Seniors on the squad include: Haley Martin, Katie Huhe, Alexis Pitzen and Karley Freidhof. Juniors Megan Ferrie and Karissa Stika will also compete.
Sophomores and freshmen on the team include: Ashley Voves, 10th grade; Isabella Lehmkuhl, 9; Haley Panos, 9; and Kryslynn Ruppert, 9.
Crestwood graduated three seniors from the 2016 team including: Nicole Fosaaen, Hannah Sheehy and Meredith Sheehy.
Cadet Head Coach Jason Sorenson said the team will be competitive this spring.
“We will have some competition within our team that will help us all to push ourselves and make improvements,” Sorenson said. “I like the attitude we have shown so far. The girls have been focused on the basics to help their growth. The girls are starting to see the importance of putting and the short game. I look for that to be an area of growth for our team.”
Sorenson said the team does not have any specific goals for the year, but he is optimistic the girls will compete hard in every meet.
“Our process goals for each meet are to always play honest, hit one shot at a time, and have fun,” the coach said. “I hope to promote a more competitive environment among our own team and also with our opponents.”
If the weather cooperates this season, the Cadets will host Oelwein on April 10, host Waverly-Shell Rock on April 14 and host Charles City on April 17. Crestwood will play at the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament on April 21.
