CRESCO - What the Crestwood girls’ golf team lacks in overall numbers this spring, they hope to make up for with solid experience under head coach Jason Sorenson.
The 2023 Cadet girls’ squad includes only six golfers, but four of them are returning letterwinners including: Cameran Moellers, senior; Kaiya Holten, junior; Jaylianna Pedretti, sophomore; and Danica Vsetecka, sophomore.
Others on the squad include: Callie Holten, junior; and Kenzie Moellers, freshman.
“We have four players who competed in every meet as a varsity player,” Sorenson said. “We will count on that experience to help us make some bigger strides in being competitive individually and as a team. I think we will control course management better and be more consistent this year.”
Sorenson is hopeful the Cadets can make improvements in their short game this season.
“We need to improve our short game, which includes chipping and putting,” the coach said. “In general, we hope to make better and more consistent contact with the ball.
“Even if it (the drive) isn’t perfectly straight, we can still have a chance at putting up a decent score on each hole. With only six players, we don’t have much internal competition for a varsity spot, so we need to really push ourselves independently for the sake of the team,” Sorenson said.
The coach noted that he will count on Moellers and Kaiya Holten to pace the team this spring.
“Cameran and Kaiya have provided good leadership in communication during the off-season and helping the team prepare for this season,” Sorenson said.
