Crestwood boys' wrestling team third at Creston Invitational

CRESTON - Facing off against several outstanding teams at the Creston Invitational on Jan. 14, the Crestwood boys’ wrestling team flexed its muscles by finishing third overall out of 11 teams with 196.5 points. Crestwood crowned three champions including: Mitchell Schmauss (106), Cole Butikofer (160) and Brock Voyna (182).
“Saturday at the Creston Invitational was a battle,” Cadet Assistant Coach Hunter Slifka said. “We knew going in we were going to have to wrestle our best to win the tournament. Our guys wrestled hard in every match and made some great strides.
“Mitchell Schmauss found himself in a grinder of a bracket (106), which included four State Qualifiers and six total ranked wrestlers. Mitchell wrestled the best he has all year and came out with a championship. We ended up finishing third overall as a team behind two great teams in Mount Vernon and Creston," Slifka said.
