Crestwood boys, girls track teams compete strong at NEIC Indoor

CRESCO - Both the Crestwood boys’ and girls’ track teams turned in several solid performances on March 20 at the NEIC Indoor Meet at Wartburg College. No team scores were recorded.
Boys’ meet
Crestwood Boys’ Head Coach Chris Lentz said he liked what he saw from the boys at Wartburg.
“For our first meet of the season, I thought we did some good things,” Lentz said. “We had a lot of guys post personal records compared to what they did last year. All three of our shot put guys showed improvement. All of our high jumpers had personal records, and Kade Munkel took first by clearing six feet.
“Our handoffs on the relays still need to improve, but we’ll be able to fine tune that. We still need to mix and match guys with events and try to get the best combinations for the relays.
“Chris Guest ran well in the high hurdles (third) and the 400 (third). I’m pleased for the most part with the way our guys competed. We just want all of our guys to compete at a high level and be a competitor,” Lentz said.
The coach noted he is hopeful the weather will get warmer soon so the team can practice outside more often.
“The weather in northeast Iowa can be a fickle beast at times,” Lentz said. “It might be 50 degrees at 4 p.m. and then it could drop to around 30 two hours later. We just need to roll with the punches and do the best we can,” Lentz said.
