CRESCO - The 2022-23 Crestwood boys’ basketball team didn’t quite reach the ultimate goal of advancing to State, but the Cadets did make many positive strides on their way to an impressive 13-9 overall mark this winter.
Seven seniors suited up for the Cadets this season including: Maurice Powell, Topher Bigalk, Nate Dietzenbach, Tristan Simiele, Zane Wemark, Zach Mehmert and Cody Fett.
Juniors included: Dylan Shelton, Ashton Buls, Parker Rice, Robby Ollendieck, Brayden Henry and Dawson Wolter.
Sophomores and freshmen included: Brayden Thompson, 10th grade; Jackson Gaul, 10th; Ben Isaacson, ninth; and Dane Curtin, ninth.
Coaches included: Chris Sullivan, head coach; Kolby LeFebvre, assistant; Rick McCarville, assistant; and Ethan Kraft, assistant.
“We had 13 wins this season compared to eight last year, which was my first season as head coach,” Sullivan said. “Crestwood basketball has a rich history, which includes being State runner-up in 2004 and 2005, and they qualified in 2006.
“We haven’t been back to State since then, but when I got the job, I knew that (being successful) was a process. We talk about believing in the process. Our kids have really bought into that.
“Our seniors were great leaders for us this year. They had the top attendance in the weight room, for open gyms and skill sessions. This year in practice, they had the highest percentage in terms of attending practices, which was close to 100%. We also had underclassmen with great attendance rates as well,” Sullivan said.
