WILLIAMSBURG - Facing stellar competition at the Williamsburg Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 20, the Crestwood boys’ wrestling team posted a third place team finish with 188 points and crowned three individual champions: Mitchell Schmauss (113), Carter Schmauss (120) and Brock Voyna.
Junior Mitchell Schmauss (29-2 record), who is ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, earned his 100th career win against Xavier Tobin of Pella at the Williamsburg Tournament.
Other Cadets who placed included: Ethan Bergan, second; Tyler Pisney, fourth; Mason Regan, fourth; Jace Pedretti, fifth; Ashton Keune, sixth; Preston McCabe, sixth and Awnan Skoda, sixth.
“This was a great tournament with teams we haven’t seen this year,” Cadet Boys’ Head Coach Keith Anderlik said. “Most of our wrestlers got six matches in since it was a seven-man round-robin individual tournament.
“We had a busy three weeks and now it slows down a bit as we head into post-season. We have more practice time to dial in on what each wrestler needs to work on to prepare for the post season,” the coach said.
The Crestwood wrestling team will face Anamosa in the Class 2A Region Team Dual Semifinals on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. at Osage.
