Cadet track teams qualify for State in 10 events

CRESCO - The Crestwood girls' and boys' track teams both competed well Thursday at the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet in Waverly as the Cadet girls' team advanced to State in eight events while the boys' team punched its ticket to the State Meet in two events.
Crestwood junior Ellie Friesen advanced to State in the 800 (first place, 2:23.90), the 1500 (first, 4:50.82), the 3000 (second, 10:35.93) and the distance medley (second, 4:18.16). Cadet sophomore Katie Saner qualified in the 100 (second, 12.74), the 200 (third, 26.84), the long jump (first, 17 feet, 0 inches) and the distance medley. Members of the distance medley team include: Saner, Friesen, Annie Mast and Brynn Bodermann. Cadet freshman Sharon Goodman qualified in the discus with a toss of 118 feet, 1 inch to place third.
In the boys’ meet, Cadet senior Spencer Cuvelier won gold in the discus at 160 feet, 11 inches to earn his ticket to State. Chris Guest took second in the 110 hurdles in 15.86 to advance to State. The Class 3A State Meet will be May 18-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. A complete story will be in the May 17 issue of the Times Plain Dealer.
