Cadet girls' track team wins MFL meet, takes third at Osage

 

OSAGE - Battling a strong field of teams last Tuesday in Osage, the Crestwood girls’ track team competed well overall by taking third place with 98 points.
The Cadets didn’t let the cool weather bother them Thursday in Monona as they won the MFL-MM Invite with 176 points.

The Cadet girls’ track team performed well at Osage last Tuesday as it placed in the top three in nine events en route to taking third place overall.
Ellie Friesen won gold in the 400 dash (1:02.38) and the 1500 (4:53.57). The 4x400 team of Brynn Bodermann, Katie Saner, Annie Mast and Hope Dohlman took first in 4:22.54. The 4x800 team of Emily Friesen, Dohlman, Rachel Steffen and Ellie Friesen won gold in 10:16.62.
“I was very pleased with the way all the girls competed,” Cadet Coach Jim Obermann said. “We faced some good competition, and there was a close team race for first place. Ellie and Katie both did a great job, and Ellie set a personal record in the 400.
“We also had a lot of solid individual and relay performances. Brynn Bodermann, Hope Dohlman and Annie Mast all led the team with their toughness in a variety of events. Sharon Goodman continues to advance and show her consistency. She posted a personal record in the discus (97-2).
“Taylor Shelton also performed well and had success in the 100 hurdles (by placing third in (17.9). Emily Friesen, Mattie Slavin and Rachel Steffen continue to grow in the middle distance events. 
“Shaunna Erickson has been a very good senior leader for us, and she’s having her best year as a sprinter. The 4x400 and 4x800 both posted the fastest time we’ve seen in the past 30 years. Overall, we have a lot of hard-workers on our team who have shown a great work ethic,” the coach said.

MFL-MM Invite
The Crestwood girls’ team captured eight gold medals and had three second place finishes en route to first place at the MFL-MM Invite Thursday in Monona.
Katie Saner won gold in the 100 (13.18), the 200 (26.81) and the 400 (1:02.23). Ellie Friesen won gold in the 800 (2:20.65) and the 3000 (10:29.37). 
Hope Dohlman took gold in the 1500 (5:24.66). Taylor Shelton won gold in the 100 hurdles in 17.76. The 4x800 team of Emily Friesen, Rachel Steffen, Sarah Mashek, and Mattie Slavin won gold in 11:12.14.
“We competed very well as a team,” Cadet Coach Jim Obermann said. “We had a few girls missing from the team because of a band trip, but the girls who filled in for them really stepped up well. Overall, this was a good night for us.
“Katie Saner had her best night of the year in the running events by winning the 100, 200 and 400. Ellie Friesen and Hope Dohlman also ran tough with Ellie winning the 3000 and 800 and Hope winning the 1500. Taylor Shelton also ran well in the 100 hurdles. All of our girls are making a lot of good progress. This was a good team win for us,” the coach said.
