Cadet girl wrestlers pin Waukon

WAUKON - It was a good night for the Crestwood girls’ wrestling team on Nov. 28 as the Cadets edged Waukon, 39-34, in a Northeast Iowa Conference dual meet on the road.

Chyann Bullerman-Yu (125), Odessa Nibbelink (130) and Kelsey Adams (100) all earned pins for the Cadets. Briana Burke notched a 5-0 at 170 pounds. In a JV match, Crestwood’s MacKenzie Midthus tallied a pin.

“This was a team effort,” Crestwood Girls’ Head Coach Jerry Steffen said. “We had one JV match with Mackenzie Midthus.  It was a great way to set the tone for our team as she came away with a pin.  

“Before a dual begins, there is a disc flip that decides who shows first at each weight.  We lossed that flip so we had to be creative with our line up. We moved people around a little and the girls battled hard.  Both teams had a few holes which made it more interesting.  Fortunately, we were able to get the win as a team.  

“I like the way we battled in competition.  I would like to see that same intensity more often in the practice room while drilling technique and during live wrestling.  Overall, I am pleased with where we are four weeks into our season,” the coach said.
